Monday, December 8th

We decided to change things up a bit, so we started the day with a walk on the beach. We've seen more beach dogs this trip than ever - we crossed paths with a beautiful Weimaraner who was determined to dig up the little sand crabs. When we walk north, we usually turn around when we get to a particular tree. When we walk south, as we did this morning, we usually pat the sea wall, it makes us feel connected to this place we enjoy so much.

Near the beach wall is the Kihei Canoe Club. One of these days Jerry will get brave enough to join them for an outing.

When we returned from our walk, we made sure to say hello to our house gecko; we've started calling her Lucy. Lucy, we're hooooooome.

We decided to stay here today, and enjoy a down day. Before dinner, we took another beach walk. Here's a photo of the peace shrine near the north side of the resort. It says, in several languages, "May peace prevail upon the earth".

We sometimes encounter odd things on our walks. Sometimes a bottle overgrown with barnacles, sometimes a sand castle. We're calling this one "Still Life With Beer."

On our way back, we encountered a very playful dog, happy to fetch the stick his owner was throwing into the sea. Soon they were joined by friends (both human and canine). The owner threw the stick, and both dogs caught it. Neither would give up, and for a long time they were spinning in circles. We left without knowing who won.

Being here puts things in a new perspective. Those exotic (to us) plants, such as hibiscus, plumeria, and poinsettias, serve as hedges here.

Jerry even found a green gecko lurking in one of the plumerias. He's in the very center of this photo.

Tonight is steak night. We gather by the pool, and the organizers provide steaks, spuds, salad, and all the trimmings.

We mill around a while drinking Mai Tais, while waiting for folks to get settled.

You go through the line once to pick up your steaks, take 'em to the grill, and when they're done you get clean plates and come through the line again, picking up the rest of your meal. It's fun to chat with the fellow travelers, and listen for any you've-gotta-do-this-before-you-leave stories. Like lots of good parties, we have freeloaders.

We ended the day with another terrific sunset.

Today's book count: Finished Lost Lake.
