Sunday, December 7th

Another sunny day, too good to waste in the condo. We had a quick breakfast of oatmeal and fruit on the lanai, while we watched a man paddle his surfboard around the bay. Then we loaded the cooler and camera gear into the car.

Today's destination was Surfing Goat Dairy, but I was disappointed that they didn't have baby goats. The kids are expected Friday, so we might give it another try. For now, you'll have to settle with two of the parking signs; I'm guessing the spot on the right is usually empty.

One of the goats gave Jerry a hard time:

On the way back to the highway, we passed a big white house with a cluster of mailboxes. You'll see junk mail goes in the trash, catalogs go in the outhouse, real mail goes into a model of the real house. Stealing mail has dire consequences. They also had a little trouble spelling parcel (partial) post.

We headed back up Haleakala. It's a twisty, curvy drive, with a handful of one-lane bridges, but oh, what a view:

The visibility was good enough to see the big island (Hawaii). The mountain on the left is Mauna Kea, the mountain on the right is Mauna Loa.

You're not supposed to feed the nene geese, but this little guy (Hey! I am NOT a nene!) tried to talk me out of a cashew:

Along the road are signs warning you of free-range cattle. This is why:

We think number 353 fancied a cushy life in a Kihei condo.

On the way down we stopped to take a picture of a home with a really big house gecko:

We had a late lunch - more like dinner - after we got back to the condo: a giant hamburger and tater tots. Tater tots are a vegetable, right? What the heck, we're on vacation.

Another glorious sunset.

Today's book count: halfway through Phillip Margolin's Lost Lake.
