Saturday, December 6th

Another day with perfect weather. The sea is perfectly calm today, looks just like glass. We had juice and fruit on our lanai, then tossed the camera gear in the car for an adventure.

We drove up to Lahaina, and found an art show under the big banyan tree.

Here's a shot of the Lahaina seawall:

We wandered through the shops, and when we passed one "activity" (read "timeshare") shop, I almost did a double take. The man inside asked if we wanted to see his babies - he had two Newfoundland dogs - a female puppy named Zoe, and an elephant, er, I mean adult male named Zeus. They were gorgeous, perfectly groomed - and not interested in doing ANYTHING in Lahaina's heat.

We continued up to Kahana, and had lunch at the Maui Brewing Company. It's changed since we were there last time; not as upscale, and more like a traditional brew pub. I had the veggie linguini, Jerry had a Cuban pulled pork sandwich. Yum!

We traveled up around the northwest corner, where the terrain is more rugged, and far less populated.

This is quite possibly the only photo of me so far with my hair more or less blowing in the same direction:

We traveled through Kapalua, then the road begins to narrow. When the state road ends, you're not supposed to take your rental car any further. What sign? The road quickly becomes a goat trail, wide enough for one car, occasionally two cars, with lots of turnouts so oncoming traffic can pass you.

About a mile into it, there's a sign announcing your last chance to turn around. Oh, and you can pick up a shave ice too.

There's a little village halfway between the two ends of the scary road.

Imagine the view from this house! This is a private residence.

After our sunset walk, we had teriyaki chicken and brocooli ($2.99 a pound for broccoli...yikes.)

Today's book count: finished Day of the Dead.
